"Sweet Scents"
36"x36" oil on canvas.
Available at Michael Mitchel.

When I first moved to Charleston 3 years ago the smell of the pluff mud was absolutely horrific to my scenes. I had come from the West growing up in the mountains literally in the pine trees of Montana. To me the smell of fresh air and pine trees was/ is heaven! The pluff mud was stagnant, heavy and much to organic for me. It smelled like compost fresh off the farm that you throw in your garden which is an acquired smell.  Now every time I come home from visiting Montana or wherever my travels may take me I step off the plane into that ohhhh so sweet smell of the pluff mud. Home Sweet Home is Charleston where the salty air mixes with jasmine and the slippery muddy waters of the marsh. Oh yeah and somewhere in there you can smell the fresh pralines moving thru the air from Market Street.

"Evening in the Keys"
8x24", oil on 1.5" wide canvas.
Available for purchase, please email me for details.

While on vacation in the Keys this past spring we had the opportunity to spend an evening on a boat with a local fisherman. We were fishing for tarpon which we did not have any success but we did land a large stingray. I did not care either way, for me the view was worth a million!

Still Life Oil Painting Canna Lilly And Green Apple

Club 47 #21
5x7, oil on panel.
Available for purchase $47 click here.

$4.70 will be donated to Hospice and I will personally match this donation!

I always paint a red oxide or magenta first before applying color to my canvas. In cases like this, the red oxide appears orange and when I allow it to show thru it makes for the perfect outline of my glass vase. The majority of the background has a violet cast while I made the choice to use a brighter more cool tone around the canna lilly flower this really makes the rust colors pop. If I had used the violet around the orange petals the painting would not have as much depth or vibrance.
